Description
The NOAA N-Wave program is seeking applicants for a mid-level Network Engineer to join our team at the NOAA Environmental Security Computing Center (NESCC) in Fairmont WV. The Network Engineer will design, configure, test, and deploy network solutions in a Federal Government environment. The position will play an integral role in identifying, prioritizing, and resolving critical network related issues. 

Primary Responsibilities
  •  Design and implement network solutions in accordance with networking best practices in local area and wide area network topologies to include an understanding of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system networking. 
  • Be part of a team that designs, deploys and operates the NOAA office of the Chief information officer datacenter monitoring and management networks 
  • Provide escalated Tier-2 and Tier-3 technical support on data, voice and wireless network issues.
  • Troubleshoot complex network problems and coordinate with various department administrators to diagnose and resolve network connectivity and performance issues.
  • Prepare network topology diagrams, write Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance plans and provide status reports as required.
  • Participate in data calls and other operational and maintenance tasks
  • This position is based in Fairmont WV with up to 40% travel to other NOAA data center locations
Qualifications
  • 8+ years experience in network architecture and engineering
  • Working knowledge of Cisco/Juniper Routing and Switching technologies
  • Experience configuring and running Cisco firewalls
  • Experience with Aruba Wireless network is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking protocols/technologies
  • Ability to communicate designs and network concepts to a variety of audiences, including peers and customers, verbally and in writing
  • General understanding of project management processes and terminology
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities
  • CCNP, JNCIP or higher certification
  • Understanding of Unix based operating systems 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is desirable
