Description
We are seeking a network architect to set technical direction for a large federal civilian agency with a science mission. The network includes an MPLS core connecting many line and program offices, as well as many remote site campus networks offering enterprise services such as LAN switching, firewalls and security services, wireless, and remote access VPNs. The agency has a growing cloud presence. The architect will be a forward-thinking engineer with strong leadership qualities. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated deep network proficiencies and will also possess the soft skills to lead projects and interact with federal government leaders and engineers. The position is based in Boulder CO and you will be required to be on site most days.

Responsibilities:
  • develop innovative network solutions to serve mission and campus customers in context of existing network deployments
  • leverage technical and industry knowledge across many areas in consultative role to help federal client make sound networking decisions
  • lead weekly calls among geographically distributed senior network engineers presenting on networking topics and projects
  • promote culture of lab testing, design qualification, and operational best practices
  • on specific projects, perform design work, proof-of-concept lab testing, and implementation/operational support
  • present on technical topics to user community at biannual customer events
  • interact with vendors and service providers to maintain relationships and identify potential new products and technology approaches
Qualifications:
  • expert-level switching, IP, MPLS, and network security skills, demonstrated through 7+ years of experience on multiple large networks
  • certifications at expert level (JNCIE or CCIE) on at least one vendor platform in service provider or enterprise space
  • ability to communicate designs and network recommendations to a variety of audiences, including peers and customers, verbally and in writing
  • deep experience with:
    • variety of Cisco and Juniper routing and switching hardware and operating systems
    • MPLS and optical networks as service provider technologies on at least one vendor platform
    • campus network designs and wireless technologies on multiple vendor platforms
    • firewall and other network security solutions across many vendor offerings
    • remote access solutions involving VPN and CASB
    • cloud infrastructure deployed in AWS, Azure, or GCP
    • unix/linux system administration and python scripting
    • SDN and NFV, and approaches to network automation and programmability
  • familiarity with Apple products, Omnigraffle, and Google G-Suite as daily productivity tools
